Darkolite

3:00am – “final” product

This is the state of the game at the end of the game jam — the product of a bit less than 7 hours. There’s no collision or fail scenario, and no way to destroy the bad guys yet. The iControlPad/iCade controls are working great though, and the particle effects and tile switching look great. Music by the most-excellent Whitaker Blackall (@wblackall). Thanks to 360iDev for hosting another great Game Jam!

Update: This prototype was made using Patrick’s own custom-built C++/OpenGL 2d game engine.

Patrick got the iControlPad working with the game. Pretty sweet to be able to control our little dude in the Simulator.

Here’s a first video of our character running around randomly on the screen, claiming the neutral squares as white squares. Patrick is a machine! I almost have both of our characters drawn, will finish off the “dark” character and post shortly.

9:03pm

We wanted a sort of floaty, quick white good guy that emanates white light, and a dark, sludge-like, gooey bad guy that moves slower and “leaks” darkness onto the board. These are the earliest sketches… much improvement to be had here yet.

Patrick is working away on the code and already has the grid showing up on the top half of the screen. Controls will be on the bottom half, and there will also be support for iControlPad and iCade.
