Devs: How to use this site

MOST IMPORTANT: You shall create one and only one post for your project.

ALSO IMPORTANT: You shall not abuse this site in any way. Don’t post anything inappropriate or in any other way be a jerk. We’re all friends here!

Setting up your project page:

Once you’re registered and approved, log in and click the “New Post” button at the top-right.

Use the title field for the title of the game. You can change this later, but you have to put *something* there. If you change it later, make sure you update the Permalink (directly under the title) to match, as this won’t change automatically if you change the title.

Below the title is the main content area. I’ll get to that in a bit.

Adding a short description

Below the main content editor is the Excerpt. This is the short description that shows up on the Game Jam homepage. Enter a *short* description of your project here.

Adding your name

Below that is the custom fields area. If you want your name or your company name to appear on the post, you can put it in here by following these steps:

  • Select “by” from the popup.
  • Fill in your name or company name. HTML is ok, so you can link back to your site here if you want. Putting your twitter handle would also be much appreciated. You don’t have to link that, it’ll link automatically thanks to @anywhere.
  • Make sure you hit the “Add Custom Field” button or it won’t save.

Adding a thumbnail image

The site homepage has thumbnails along the right side of the column. Note that the thumbnails must be at least 150×100, and larger images get cropped and scaled automatically.

Once you have something, you can insert yours by selecting “Set featured image” from the right sidebar

This brings up the WordPress image uploader. Upload the file from you computer. When it’s finished, you’ll see a page with a bunch of options for the image. At the bottom of that page is a “Use as featured image” link.

Click that and then close the image uploader.

Click the blue Publish button near the top-right of the page to save and publish your post.

Introduce yourself

This is optional, but it would be great to have a short intro on each post about who’s involved in the project, maybe what your experience level is, projects you’ve worked on before, etc.

Adding content as you progress

As you’re able, add content to your post to mark your progress. I recommend putting the time in there for each new “entry”. Keep in mind that you should but putting all your content in this one post. Please do not make multiple posts.

Upload images with the “Upload/Insert” button just above the editor toolbar:

iPad and landscape retina screenshots will be too big to view inline, so make sure you select the “Large” setting to make sure the image is 600 pixels wide.

You can click the “File URL” button to make the image link to the full-size screenshot, so people can still see it.

Add videos by clicking the movie icon at the far right of the toolbar and pasting the URL to your video in the dialog box:

NOTE: Updating your post will bump it to the top of the list on the homepage, so updates are good! Please don’t abuse this with meaningless updates though.
